How to care for your fine art print so it stays beautiful for years to come.
Your print has been produced on museum-grade archival paper using premium pigment inks. With a little care, your artwork will maintain its clarity, colour and texture for decades.
HANDING YOUR PRINT
- Wash and dry your hands before handling. (Or wear clean gloves)
- Hold the print by the edges to avoid fingerprints or smudges.
- Avoid bending or creasing the paper.
- If your print arrives rolled, allow it to relax flat before framing.
FRAMING RECOMENDATIONS
Professional Framing
For the longest life and best presentation, we recommend professional framing using conservation-grade materials.
Glass Choice
Use UV-resistant glass or acrylic to reduce the risk of fading.
UV glazing protects the artwork from harmful light exposure.
Matting
Adding a mat (mount) provides breathing room between the glass and print, helping prevent moisture buildup and protecting the surface.
Placement in Your Home
To maintain colour and paper quality:
- Avoid hanging prints in direct sunlight.
- Keep away from heat sources such as fireplaces or radiators.
- Avoid areas with high humidity such as bathrooms.
- Choose spaces with stable temperature and gentle natural light.
Cleaning Your Frame
- Clean the glass with a soft cloth and glass cleaner sprayed onto the cloth, not directly on the frame.
- Avoid getting moisture near the edges of the print.
Long-Term Care
- Keep your print in a dry, stable environment.
- If storing, use acid-free materials and avoid tight tubes for long periods.
- Dust gently with a clean, dry cloth; never use water on the print surface.
- Check periodically for signs of humidity if you live in a tropical climate.
CARING FOR ORIGINAL ARTWORKS
If you purchase an original oil or ink piece:
- We recommend professional float frames for oil paintings on stretched canvas.
- Avoid extreme temperature changes.
- Oils require adequate curing time before framing under glass.
- Frame with acid-free backing and UV-protective glazing.
- Never place originals in direct sunlight.
- Minor canvas dents caused in home can often be corrected by lightly dampening the back of the canvas with a clean wet cloth. As the cotton fibres absorb the moisture and dry, the canvas will naturally tighten and the dent will usually lift back into place. Always apply moisture to the back of the canvas only and allow it to dry naturally. If a dent is severe or the paint surface has cracked, consult a professional conservator.
